Choosing the Perfect Location for Your Senior Portraits

Selecting the right location for your senior portraits can significantly impact the overall feel of your images. Think about locations that resonate with you—be it a bustling cityscape,

a serene nature spot, or a meaningful place like your school or favorite hangout. Each environment can evoke different emotions and tell a unique story about who you are.

When considering a location, think about the time of day and how natural light will play into your photos. Early morning or late afternoon often provides the best lighting conditions, known as the “golden hour,” for capturing stunning portraits. Additionally, visit the location ahead of time to scout the best spots for photos. This will help you visualize how your outfits and poses will look against the backdrop. Your photographer can also help in scouting out the area you have in mind and help with outfit choices and making a plan for the best time of day for your session.

Don’t forget to consider accessibility and comfort. If you choose a location that requires a hike or a long walk, make sure you're prepared for it. If you have a dream location that will require a hike this MUST be discussed with your photographer prior to booking your session as there could be additional charges. Consider that hiking may not be in your photographers bag of tricks. Your comfort level will reflect in your expressions and poses, so choose a spot where you feel at ease and can truly be yourself. The last thing you want to do is show up melted or in a bad mood because of the hike

All this information can help you decide on the perfect location for your senior session. If you don't have a special location in mind discuss what you would like your photos to show or say about you. Discuss these ideas with your photoghrapher and they will be able to help you with the best possible location that meets your ideas for your senior session.
