Senior year is a whirlwind of emotions, milestones, and memories—and one of the most cherished traditions is the senior photo session. It’s more than just a picture; it’s a celebration of your teen’s personality, accomplishments, and the exciting path ahead. As a senior photographer (and a mom to a 2026 senior myself!), I know just how meaningful—and busy—this time of year can be.
If you're starting to think about senior photos, here’s a guide to help you find the right photographer and when to get it on the calendar.

When Should You Schedule Your Senior Session?
In short: sooner than you think!
Many photographers—especially those who travel or shoot on location—book out months in advance. Summer and early fall are peak seasons because of ideal weather, golden light, and schedules that aren’t jam-packed with school and activities yet.
If you're dreaming of a beach session or a destination shoot, it’s even more important to plan ahead. I personally take several trips a year to beach locations, and those time slots fill quickly! Reach out early so you can align your session with my travel schedule or plan a custom trip.
✨ Pro Tip: Booking in late spring or early summer before senior year starts gives you more flexibility, and you’ll have your photos ready in time for yearbook deadlines, graduation announcements, and more.
What to Look for in a Senior Photographer
Choosing a senior photographer is a big decision—you want someone who can capture your teen’s personality and style in a relaxed, authentic way. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
1. Style & Portfolio
Every photographer has a unique style. Do you love natural light, bright and airy photos, or something more moody and dramatic? Browse their website or social media and ask yourself: Do I see my senior in these images?

2. Experience with Seniors
Shooting senior portraits is different from family sessions or weddings. Look for someone who understands how to pose teens naturally and bring out their genuine expressions. Seniors are often camera-shy at first—an experienced photographer knows how to ease those nerves quickly.
3. Personal Connection
This is a huge one. Your senior should feel comfortable and confident during their session. I offer complimentary consultations to make sure we’re a great fit and to learn about your senior’s interests, personality, and vision for their shoot. A relaxed session = better photos every time.
4. Flexibility & Travel
If you're dreaming of a destination session (hello, beach breeze and ocean sunsets!), make sure your photographer travels and can accommodate those dreams. I plan several trips throughout the year, and I love incorporating unique backdrops into your senior’s story.
A Personal Note

This year is extra special for me—my own son is a 2026 senior! That means I’m stepping into your shoes too, navigating all the planning and emotion right alongside you. And yes... it’s going to get busy fast. That’s why I encourage families to schedule their sessions early and take advantage of consultation calls to iron out the details.
